The twenty marks in MECEE-BL that nobody prepares
The mental agility test is a tenth of the paper and the block most candidates walk into cold, on the theory that aptitude cannot be trained. It can.
Ask a MECEE-BL candidate about their preparation and you will hear about biology, then chemistry, then physics. Ask about the mental agility test and you will usually hear a version of the same sentence: it is only twenty marks, and you cannot really study for it.
Both halves of that sentence are wrong in a way that matters, and the second half is wrong in a way that is quietly expensive.
Twenty marks is not a rounding error
The paper is two hundred questions of one mark each. Mental agility is twenty of them. That is the same weight as forty per cent of the physics section, and physics gets months.

Biology carries eighty marks, chemistry fifty, physics fifty and the mental agility test twenty, out of two hundred in total.
Why it matters more under a percentile cut-off
Only candidates at or above the fiftieth percentile enter the merit list, and ranking is relative. That changes what a mark is worth depending on where you get it.
A biology mark is contested. Every serious candidate has revised biology thoroughly, so gaining one there means outperforming people who prepared as hard as you did. A mental agility mark is comparatively uncontested, because a large share of the cohort genuinely did not prepare. The same one mark moves your position further.
It is finite, which is the whole reason it is trainable
Mental agility items are not open-ended puzzles. They come from a small number of recurring families, and each family has a method that works.

Two weeks, twenty minutes a day
This is the whole commitment, and it is normally enough to change the block substantially.

Days one to four: identify the families
Work a mixed set slowly and label each item with its family. You are learning to recognise the type, which is most of the speed gain.

Days five to ten: one family per session
Twenty items from a single family, applying its method deliberately, until the method runs without thinking.

Days eleven to fourteen: mixed and timed
Twenty mixed items in the time the real paper allows for twenty. The switching between families is the last skill to arrive.

Then leave it alone
Unlike content subjects, this block does not decay quickly. Revisit briefly before the exam rather than continuously.
There is also a stamina argument. The mental agility items are the least demanding on recall and the most demanding on attention, which means where they fall in your three hours matters. Knowing the families lets you take them quickly whenever they arrive, rather than losing minutes to working out what is being asked.
